Know your Rights

This used to be a big saying back in the so-called good old days. 'Know your rights', like that was supposed to help when the powers that be brought the boot down. Maybe it did then. But if you're reading this, you're either a corporate governance officer doing field research or you're one of the poor unlucky bastards trying to figure out what the limitations on your brand new indenture contract are.Effectively, there are none. The sooner you get your head around that, the better off you'll be.Your contract almost definitely has a clause in it about 'arbitration'. If you don't know, go check. Once you've got that confirmed, here's what it means, divorced from the boilerplate: if you have an issue with your treatment as an employee, you don't go to court. You go to a corpo-friendly 'arbiter' who will rule against you.Not 'might' rule against you. Will. The corporation always wins.You don't have recourse. You don't have options. You don't have rights, because a right that can't be enforced is a pretty sentence in a legal code, not reality.You're on your own out there.
